“The toughest but least disciplined” was how Rommel described the Aussies of the 9th Division. A unique opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the 6th and 9th Australian Divisions and celebrate ANZAC Day in Tobruk. Visit such famous places as Ruin Ridge, Tel el Eisa and the “saucer”, El Alamein, Mersa Matruh, Bardia, Tobruk, Hill 209, Post R33, Derna, Regima Ridge, Benghazi and Tripoli. This is not just a tour for the Gentlmen, Ladies are also catered for with ample time to visit places other than battlefields. |

| 18th April | Arrive Cairo airport, where you will be met by our representative and escorted to our hotel in Cairo. Rest of the day free |

| 19th April | Following breakfast we will visit the impressive Pyramids and
Sphinx, with the opportunity to go inside one of the pyramids.
The even more impressive Cairo Pharaoh Museum and finally
Cairo War Cemetery where amongst others Jock Campbell VC
is buried. Today we will be having lunch on a Nile riverboat. |

| 20th April | A 8.00am start for our drive to El Alamein via Chatby and Hadra
War Cemeteries at Alexandria where Australian dead of both
world wars are buried, many from Gallipoli. Lunch at the famous
Cecil hotel before making our way to our hotel at El Alamein.
The day includes a short tour of Alexandria city. |

| 21st April | Full day on and around the El Alamein battlefield including a cold picnic on the battlefield. Visits to include original El Alamein railway station, Ruin Ridge, El Alamein War Cemetery where 3 Australian Victoria Cross winners are buried, War Museum, German War Cemetery on Hill 26, and the Italian War Cemetery at Tel el Eisa and the famous railway cutting. |

| 22th April | Drive to our hotel at Mersa Matruh via Sidi El Rahman, Fuka
airfield site of the famous 1942 SAS raid, and the Rommel
Headquarters situated in Matruh harbour at Matruh. We will have
lunch in Matruh, opportunity for shopping or relaxing on the
beach. |

| 23rd April | 8.00 am start for our drive to our hotel in Tobruk, via Sidi
Barrani, Hellfire Pass and Sollum/Halfaya War Cemetery before
driving up the steep Sollum escarpment and crossing the border
into Libya, past the ruins of Italian Fort Capuzzo then onto
Tobruk stopping at Bardia (if time allows). Lunch will be
taken at Bardia. |

| 24th April | Four wheel drive to the battlefields of Tobruk including the Fig
Tree hospital, Hill 209, Post R33 where Jack Edmundson won
Australia’s first Victoria Cross of WW2 and where we will have
a barbecue, Sidi Rezegh airfield, and Ed Duda. A long day but
an experience not to be missed. |

| 25th April | ANZAC DAY Various sites in and around Tobruk, including Knightsbridge and Tobruk War Cemeteries, the Foreign Legion cemetery at Kings Cross, the German Afrika Korps Headquarters, General Moreshead’s HQ during the siege and a short drive along the famous “Tobruk By-Pass”, Lunch will be taken overlooking Tobruk harbour. |

| 26th April | Drive through the Cyrene to our hotel by the sea at Sousa, via the
site of Rommels first attack on Tobruk in April 1941, and the
White House (German Field Hospital). Drive down the beautiful
and impressive Derna Pass. Tour of the ancient city of
Appollonia. Lunch will be taken en route. |

| 27th April | Drive through the Green Mountains to Benghazi via Beda
Littoria and the famous “Raid on Rommel” headquarters,
Regima Ridge verlooking Benina airfield where the 2/13th Bn
won Australia’s first Battle Honour of WW2, and Benghazi
War Cemetery . Lunch En route. Fly to Tripoli and transfer to
our hotel in Tripoli. |

| 28th April | Visit to Tripoli War Cemetery and the magnificent ancient city
of Leptis Magna. |

| 29th April | Day of leisure in Tripoli or optional visit to the ancient city of
Sabratha |
||
| 30th April | Flight to Cairo, Overnight in Cairo. |
||
| May 1st | Flight home or other. |
